Ethical Practice through Cultural and Clinical Humility
Presented by Ruth Nirenberg, Psy.D.
The Ethical Practice through Cultural and Clinical Humility workshop applies directly to evidence-based effective clinical interventions, APA principles and standards of practice, and person-centered strength-based service delivery. By embracing a clinically and culturally humble stance, practitioners are more successful at engaging individuals seeking therapeutic services in a manner aligned with the Code of Conduct. By providing clients with the opportunity to tell their story in an organically accepted and trusting way, practitioners foster positive therapeutic outcomes, respects people’s rights & dignity, and uphold the foundational tenants of ethical practice.
This webinar is an opportunity for psychologists to challenge their own biases and to gain insight into the impact these have on their client engagement, clinical practice, diagnostic decision making, and collaborative efforts to promote integrated quality ethical care. Participants will have the opportunity to identify and explore the source of bias while also enhancing their capacity for empathy and humility. Through exploring privilege and acknowledging its impact, workshop attendees will integrate motivational interviewing skill, stages of change knowledge, and EBP intervention theory to uphold professional integrity and the nuances of ethical challenges.
Through the use of video-tele-conferencing and screen-sharing, attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on the topic of clinical and cultural bias, sensitivity, and humility. By integrating self-identified content and presenter materials, this workshop will be a rich experiential learning opportunity, with direct insights immediately applicable to clinical work and application of principles and standards of ethical practice.
This workshop was recorded on March 7, 2025.
